1. Policy Statement

Grandscale Constructions Ltd is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, clients, visitors, and members of the public affected by our construction activities. We recognise and accept that under the Health & Safety at Work etc., Act 1974 (‘the Act’) and The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (as amended) we have a legal and moral responsibility to prevent accidents, injuries, and ill health by implementing effective health and safety management systems.

 

2. Objectives

  • To provide a safe and healthy work environment for all.
  • To prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational ill health.
  • To comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and industry standards.
  • To continually improve our health and safety performance.

 

3. Responsibilities

  • Management Responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Provide adequate resources, training, and supervision.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and implement controls.
  • Investigate incidents and take corrective action.
  • Maintain emergency procedures and first aid provisions.
  • Site Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with safety procedures.
  • Communicate safety policies to workers and subcontractors.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and toolbox talks.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.
  • Employee Responsibilities
  • Follow health and safety procedures and training.
  • Use tools and equipment safely and properly.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and incidents to the supervisor.
  • Participate in safety training and meetings.

 

4. Risk Management

  • Carry out site-specific risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Identify and control hazards including working at height, manual handling, use of power tools, and exposure to dust/noise.
  • Review and update risk assessments regularly or when circumstances change.
  • Ensure safe systems of work are in place for all activities.

 

5. Training and Communication

  • Provide induction training to all new employees and subcontractors.
  • Offer ongoing health and safety training relevant to tasks.
  • Ensure open communication through daily briefings and toolbox talks.

 

6. Accident and Incident Reporting

  • All accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions must be reported immediately.
  • Incidents will be recorded, investigated, and used to improve future safety practices.
  • Maintain an Accident Book in line with RIDDOR regulations.

 

7. Emergency Procedures

  • Emergency procedures will be clearly displayed and communicated.
  • Fire extinguishers and first aid kits will be available on-site.
  • At least one trained first aider will be present on every site.

 

8. Subcontractor Management

  • Subcontractors must comply with our health and safety standards.
  • Risk assessments and method statements must be reviewed before work begins.
  • Regular audits and inspections will ensure ongoing compliance.

 

9. Monitoring and Review

  • This policy will be reviewed annually or when significant changes occur.
  • Regular site inspections and audits will ensure effectiveness.
  • Feedback from staff and stakeholders will inform improvements.
